Wikistories is a proposed website created by Gary Kirk. Users will be able to write stories - fiction - and, using the MediaWiki software powering the site, will be able to instabtly edit their own and other's stories. Using the collaborative writing model employed by Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, users will be able to correct errors in grammar, spelling, andf broader plot issues - altering the text in any way they choose. Each revision of the text is stored and available for anyone interested to see how a story progressed. The Stable Versions extension currently being developed for MediaWiki will be of great use to this project.

[edit] Users

Anonymous editing will be permitted, although users are encouraged to register their own username. Authors will be able to apply for an "author" flag which will give them the additional technical ability to protect pages (their stories) once they deem them to be complete.

[edit] Licensing

Authors may choose to license their own stories under a number of available licenses, including the GFDL, Creative Commons and public domain. The MediaWiki software (possibly forked into a Xinki-specific repository hosted by Google Code) is licensed under the GPL as is the default interface text contained in the MessagesXX.php files. The rest of the site excluding stories and possibly userpages will (probably) be licensed under the GFDL.
